Board Members
The board members manage the organisation and represent it in and outside courts of justice, according to paragraph 26 BGB. The representation is effected through the 1st Chairman and one of the Co-Chairman. The Board of Directors consists of six persons.The appointment is for two years.
Within the board, the activities and duties of the association are divided into the following five departments, whereby in each case two board members are responsible for one department under direction of one board member.

The present board is composed of the following members:
Achim Pütz (Chairman) is a partner in the Munich office of Dechert LLP. Before, he was head of SJ Berwin’s Financial Markets Group Germany. With many years of experience, he advises German and foreign clients in capital markets and investment law. Achim is an expert in structuring both traditional and alternative investments. The conception, documentation and promotion of structured debt products and repackaging solutions is another special focus of his practice. Achim studied law at the University of Bonn and went on to work for a large US law firm. He then set up his practice as a solicitor in Germany. Achim is credited with various publications and frequently gives speeches on questions of investment and capital markets law related issues. Achim is founder and chairman of the BAI. He also was a council member of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) for many years.
Mr. Pütz is responsible for the departments Legal and Policy Affairs/Taxes (main responsibility) and Investor-/Member-Relations.
Rolf Dreiseidler (Co-Chairman) is Head Institutional Clients Germany at Man Investments and is based in Pfaeffikon SZ, Switzerland. He is responsible for client relationships with insurance companies, pension funds, bank treasuries, as well as foundations and family offices in Germany.
Since 2010 Rolf is Co-Chairman of the Bundesverband Alternative Investments e.V. (BAI).
Prior to joining Man Investments in July 2007, Rolf was Head of Funds of Hedge Funds with Deka Investment GmbH, where he was responsible for the product development as well as the portfolio management of funds of hedge funds.
Previously, Rolf was the head of agency office at Bundesverband Alternative Investments e.V. (BAI).
Rolf started his career as a consultant with an internationally renowned management consultancy firm in the field of capital markets/asset management.
Rolf holds a diploma degree from the University of Bonn in economics with focus on finance and portfolio theory. He is a CFA charterholder, a CAIA charterholder and a lecturer at EBS Executive Education of the EBS University for economy and law, Wiesbaden/Rheingau.
Mr. Dreiseidler is responsible for the departments Events (main responsibility) and Education/Science.
Dr. Joachim Kayser (Treasurer and Co-Chairman) is a qualified attorney and a partner with PwC in Frankfurt where he leads the Alternative Investment Group since 2007 and the AM Regulatory Consulting Team since 2010.
Before joining PwC Frankfurt, Joachim had been working for 10 years in a leading alternative investment law firm "boutique" in Germany where he finally concentrated on hedge funds. Before that he was an assistant at the chair for public law and international taxation at Free University of Berlin. He studied law in Heidelberg and Berlin after completing a traineeship at Deutsche Bank.
His area of specialisation is providing counselling in tax and regulatory matters to investment funds as well as their investors (institutions, family offices), managers and intermediaries (banks, financial service providers, asset managers) with regards to the structuring/distribution of alternative investments/financial products, in particular hedge funds, private equity funds and structured funds (like ETFs, UCITs). Joachim is member of the German-American Lawyers´ Association and lectures and publishes on a variety of before mentioned areas, among others he is a frequent lecturer on investment fund regulation and taxation at several universities in Germany. He also regularly advises German (financial) authorities on legislative and regulatory questions.
Dr. Kayser is Treasurer and responsible for the departments Human Resources/Organisation/Accounting (main responsibility) and Legal and Policy Affairs/Taxes.
Dr. Wolfgang Leoni (Co-Chairman) is a member of the Executive Board of the private bank Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. and Chief Investment Officer of the Sal. Oppenheim Group. He is responsible for all portfolio management, for both institutional and private clients of Sal. Oppenheim. Following his studies in economics at the University of Constance, Leoni worked as a research fellow and tutor at the universities of Siegen and Giessen from 1982 to 1989. After completing his doctorate, he built up the Economics and Quantitative Analysis departments at B. Metzler Bank. Dr. Leoni moved to the Liechtenstein branch of the bank in 1993, where he took charge of the Investment Research department and became Head of Portfolio Management (Equities). In 1996, he joined the management at Deka Investment (Management) GmbH, where he rose to the position of Chief Investment Officer (CIO), taking responsibility for all investment processes. Dr. Leoni became a member of the management team at Oppenheim Kapitalanlagegesellschaft (OKAG) in January 2007.
Dr. Leoni is married with two children.

Bastian Schmedding (Co-Chairman) has been responsible for the development and implementation of marketing strategies for institutional European investors since 1989. After being with J.P. Morgan GmbH and Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, he took the responsibility for the sales and client service for the institutional fund clients at J.P. Morgan Investment GmbH in 1992. In 1998 he joined Allianz Asset Management GmbH in Munich and became responsible for the institutional business. In 1999 he became vice speaker of the Board of Directors at Allianz Kapitalanlagegesellschaft. In 2002 he joined Allianz Hedge Fund Partners in Geneva as a Partner. In September 2004 Mr. Schmedding became Managing Director at the Union Investment Institutional GmbH and was responsible for the institutional business outside the co-operative sector. In the time from September 2007 up to November 2012 he worked for the European distribution company of Permal, one of the largest independent hedge fund of fund managers. Here he had the responsibility for the institutional clients in Germany.
Since November 2012 Mr. Schmedding works for the Intermediate Capital Group (ICG), the London listed worldwide leading specialist asset manager for European private debt. Based in Frankfurt he has the responsibility for the institutional business in the German speaking part of Europe.
Mr. Schmedding is responsible for the departments Public Relations (main responsibility) and Human Resources/Organisation/Accounting.
Prof. Dr. Rolf Tilmes (Co-Chairman) is the Academic Director of the PFI Private Finance Institute of the EBS Business School at the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht (EBS) in Wiesbaden. Furthermore, he served as Dean of the EBS Business School. His Endowed Chair for Private Finance & Wealth Management is a central part of the PFI . Since 2004, he has been in charge of executive education cooperation with its three programs on hedge funds, private equity and commodities between BAI and EBS. Before his academic career, Rolf Tilmes worked for Booz & Company as a consultant in the financial services industry for more than 8 years and gained experiences in a private equity start-up as a member of the board in a multichannel insurance brokerage. Rolf Tilmes studied business administration at the EBS, in Paris, France and Glendale, AZ, USA. He gained a MBA-degree from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School in Chicago, USA and obtained his Ph.D. from EBS in 1999.
Prof. Dr. Tilmes is responsible for the departments Education/Science (main responsibility) and Events.
