Dr Lina Boecker, Osborne Clarke

Dr Lina Boecker is an experienced solicitor specialising in IT law and one of the few recognised experts in the field of open-source compliance. She provides comprehensive advice to companies on issues relating to the use of open source, in particular on code curation, the analysis and assessment of open-source licences, and architectural decisions that are crucial for a legally sound yet practical open-source strategy.

Another key focus of her work lies in the field of artificial intelligence. She supports companies in establishing and further developing AI compliance structures, advises on current and future regulation of AI systems, and shapes the contractual framework for AI projects – from procurement and implementation through to use and scaling in complex product and service environments.

Lina is particularly active at the interface between open source and AI: she works with her clients to develop strategies for the licensing and use of AI systems and models based on open-source components or open models, and helps to reconcile legal risks with technical design decisions. In addition, she advises on contract drafting – for example, in relation to development, licence and collaboration agreements – as well as on technology-driven transactions where issues relating to IP, data, open source and AI are central.

Her advisory work focuses on the mobility sector (particularly the automotive industry) and the tech, media and communications (TMC) sector, where she has an extensive track record – ranging from embedded software in vehicles and connected services and platforms to data- and AI-based business models in the media and content industry.

Lina was admitted to the bar in 2011. After nine years – including more than five years as a partner – at a Berlin-based boutique law firm specialising in IT law, she has been a partner at Osborne Clarke since 2022.
