Markus Krause, Ministry of Finance of the State of Saxony-Anhalt
Markus Krause has headed the Department for Money and Capital Market Operations at the Ministry of Finance of the State of Saxony-Anhalt since 2022. After completing his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in 2012, he joined the state’s Funding and Treasury division.
Together with his team, he is responsible for the state’s financing on the national and international capital markets, as well as for managing a debt portfolio of around 24 billion euros and an asset portfolio of approximately 4 billion euros. A particular focus of his work is on developing innovative funding strategies and tapping into new investor groups. These include the issuance of the first social bond by a German federal state, regular foreign currency transactions and – most recently – the issuance of the first crypto-security by a German federal state in June 2026. He is particularly interested in the intersection of public finance, capital markets and technological innovation. He regards innovations such as these as an opportunity to make public financing more efficient, resilient and sustainable.
In his private life, he is a father of three and an endurance athlete. The stamina and determination required for this shape him equally in both his sporting and professional life.
